Synastry: More Than Meets the Eye
They are everywhere!!! Hurry now before supplies run out! Limited time offer! Get your’s today! You deserve the best…. a marketer’s playground of slippery slogans. The current target ( I am sure amongst others) are the computer generated Astrology compatability charts. Step right up and pay me 19.99, 29.99, 39.99 and I will input your data and hit enter. So many people on the web and in other classifieds are doing just that. I am not saying that the information is bad, most of it really is accurate…. but I worry how much stock someone will put into the reading. And I wonder if they would even pay it if they realized it was from a computer software program.
I guess I have taken issue with this because I have a difficult chart. That is difficult in that I have a Tsquare involving the Luminaries in opposition and the apex landing on Jupiter. That aspect of planets needs to be read as one planet in Synastry in addition to singling out any of them individually. Let me give an example. I have the Sun 07 Capricorn in the 12th and the Moon 06 Cancer in the 6th. Jupiter is 10 Aries in the 2nd house. So when someone has…. let’s say Venus Conjunct my Moon… oh happy days and we are sitting lovebirds blah blah blah in the Synastry read outs. Okay, I can agree with that. But that same report will point out that Venus is Opposed the Sun… Oh no, still some compatibility, but less romantic in nature. A little further down Venus Squares Jupiter…. Horrors of an Epic nature (hee… everything involving Jupiter turns epic). And so goes it through the entire computer generated reading. Heaven forbid someone brings a planet in Libra to the table!! Let’s put a Libra Mars against my chart in synastry. Now we have 2 squares to the Luminaries…(less experienced Astrologers will scream run away run away that is violence) and an opposition to Jupiter. Well… I get along very well with Libras and those with heavy Libra planets. Why? They balance out that energy I am juggling. With Mars, there would be competitiveness, and action, and possibly direction. So a synastry generated report would have given big Red Flags… but it would actually be very positive (and busy… that Jupiter and Mars would have a lot of action going). So we know that any computer generated synastry would be tainted with my chart. Well you have a chart that is dynamic, another dynamic person is sought out. And as many times as not, I am looking at a synastry between me (The Tsquare) and usually a Grand Cross or another Tsquare Person. Don’t think that isn’t a fright on paper. Suddenly the looking for Trines is not so important as looking for oppositions. The Chart needs to find balance. And oppositions are a natural state for these kind of configurations of aspects. So all of a sudden the awareness that a square in these cases are really midpoints. Yay! We all love midpoints! So reading the chart changes dynamics again.
In addition, we need to take into account the houses that are in play. If the person with the Grand Cross has the planets in the Angular Axis…. well, I am comfortable with that, as Capricorn, Cancer, and Aries all do understand those houses. I take it you are starting to understand how much more there is then just planet A to Planet B mean….. I am going to add a bit more then.
Sometimes a computer generated Synastry chart will be bland, okay… you don’t see anything that would cement a couple together. Look closer. Look for parallel and contra parallels. Those are additional “conjunctions” Look at the Antiscions. These are your mirror points. Antiscions that land on the others planets are stronger than regular conjunctions. Look for the Arabic Parts in a Synastry. Make sure the Nodes are examined. In computer generated reports, usually a hard aspect is bad, but since this is a point with an axis…. think Mid Point instead…. same with the Vertex. And with those more difficult charts, look for balance.
In many of the relationship readings I have done, the story is amazing in the Composite. That is were you see the compatibility when the forces combine. As an example… I have the tsquare chart. My sister has a Grand Cross chart. When the Composite chart is made, we create a perfect kite with only one square that is so out of orb, I wouldn’t count it.
So, I think it is time to rethink our Astrology skills if we have been too dependent on a computer. Now, I am not being silly and saying invest the time and dedication to learning how to cast a chart… that is done accurately with a click, click, click, and enter. I am suggesting we go back and learn the basics and then the rules, and then the exceptions…. every person is a beautiful celebration of uniqueness as is every chart cast between them.
