Embracing my North Node (Finally)
Posted in Astrology, Other with tags Cancer, Moon, North Node on November 5, 2009 by wintersprite1Astrology: And Why Did the Chicken Cross the Road?
Posted in Astrology on October 24, 2009 by wintersprite1And just why did the chicken cross the road? Well duh…. he was experiencing Uranus transit opposed Uranus natal (midlife crisis time), Hey, how about why was the chicken run over crossing the road? Saturn return during a Mercury RX period and the Moon in the Via Combusta under the beams of the Sun (the Sun obviously, in fall being in Libra). I just crack myself up. And hopefully, give a snicker to the reader versed in Astrology. As I had noted in an earlier blog, an Astrologer really does need other friends that are also Astrologers…. we speak a different language than the rest of
the world, including our humor.
Last night I found myself in a fit of giggles. http://horoscopicastrologyblog.com/2009/10/23/rob-hand-wins-lifetime-achievement-award-kanye-west-interrupts-acceptance-speech/ I saw a visual joke that was both timely and steeped in Astrological references.
I tried to explain the joke to my children and a friend of theirs… all have
an elementary understanding of Astrology, but the joke fell flat, and got less
and less funny the more I tried to explain it. From trying to convey the
importance of the contributions made to Astrology by Rob Hand, to the basic
history of Ptolemy and mixing it up with current events the kids ended
up putting the reference to Kanye West as the important element,
missing the joke entirely. Author Chris Brennen did a wonderful job providing links to all of the players, so none of us would be left in the dark….
wouldn’t life be easier if we could use links when speaking out in person?
I had a great antidotal story that took place about a year ago. My son is
a Gemini with a Sag rising… so even if the Gemini winds down, the Sag takes
over and he is constant noise and movement. I had just arrived home and getting out of the car when I see him whirling around in a clockwise circle. He suddenly comes to a stop and then starts the same frantic circling in a counter clockwise orientation. I hadn’t seen him do that before so I ask (in retrospect I see I was set up),”What are you doing?” to which I get the answer, “I am retrograde.” Proud parent that I am, I tell Grandma and the Aunts and Uncles and I get blank looks back. One call to Ryoin and I get table slapping, and laughing that produces both tears and snorts.Astrology Weekly has a collection of Astrological Humor located at http://www.astrologyweekly.com/humour/ both anecdotal and
the plain silly how many blanks does it take to change a lightbulb. I know
there are those out there that will say that the stereotypes based
on Sun Signs are detrimental to the study of Astrology, but they are fun and
help those newer to understand the essence of a sign. And having lived
under a roof so far with 3 Sag Suns, 2 Sag Moons, 3 Sag risings and my afflictedJupiter… I think it takes one Sag and a crew of Virgos to clean the mess and to call 911 after applying the tourniquet, really funny.
oh, I have another happening… a while back, the entire family had a place
we all had to be. My daughter (Leo with Libra Moon) was unruffled while
the rest of us were running around trying to get everything ready. At the last
moment, we are about to leave and my daughter announces that she doesn’t
know where her shoes are. That starts another round of rushing aroundup turning the house. In desperation her Uncle yells at her, “would you get up and help these are your shoes”. To which she very innocently blinks and turns the computer screen to show a horary chart labeled, where are my shoes… and says, “I am looking”. I laughed, the rest of the family could have killed both of us. BTW it was a late Ascendent and the shoes found by her brother a few moments later ( and that did show in the chart including timing).
So thank you my friends and all of you readers. It is nice to have a place
to share gems that would otherwise be lost. I invite all of you to please
share your stories or jokes.
Astrology: The Internet Romper Room
Posted in Other with tags astrologers, ethics on August 22, 2009 by wintersprite1Think of the splintered broom in Fantasia and see the correlation of those professing knowledge in Astrology and are here to help (their own egos usually). This is one of those fields…. I myself do not care for the need of certification, as I am skeptical off any and all facilities that offer such, no offense to them, it is my skepticism. But I am considering embracing them now as the litmus test of when someone is indeed an Astrologer. In other fields, you don’t go out and buy a stethoscope and say, “hi, I am a Doctor” with out professional schooling. I unfortunately live in a state that thinks anyone can hang a shingle and call themselves a councilor. But does the average person looking for help know that is our state law? Are they expecting a more rigorous standards and protection by the state than, sure if you can buy a business card, you can be a counciler too. Now applied to Astrology, how does the average person know anything?
I frequent a forum (not for much longer as the one Ryoin and I started I am hoping takes off…. see the link to the right of this article) and lately have been just appalled by what is allowed to take place on there…. and honestly, this is the kind of stuff that has made it impossible to convince the scientific world of the value of a legitimate look at Astrology as a scientific principle. I have had to intervene on the behalf of a child that was reported to be abused and all grandma wanted was to have someone look at the chart so she would have ammunition to fight with the child’s mother on the behalf of the child’s health…. EXCUSE ME??? Grandma said and described the abuse. Even after my posting to report the parents and worry about Astrology later, the follow up postings were in giving the grandmother sympathy and advice…. Poor Grandma, old enough to escape a deadly situation, lets coddle her and further victimize her granddaughter….. This wasn’t one or two “astrologers” it was about a dozen or more postings after that.
Who would turn to strangers for their children’s mental health? Apparently, there are plenty of parents out there doing just that. Not just in Astrology, but that is the place I am focused on with this blog. I was just dealing with another ( Neptune, Chiron conjunction rx… there have been many) flair up. Mom writes in wondering where to find the place in the chart that would make a child clairaudial. But what is written really warrants a quick trip to the medical field before preceding. What a blow up that was!!! Immediately out of the woodwork came those claiming it was spiritual voices, or ghost other dimension voices… and I am not saying that wasn’t the case… I was saying, go get it checked… there are various reasons that audible hallucinatory impulses happen and they are not all psychotic…. check that out first. You would think that I was the messenger from Hell’s pit for suggesting it. It got ugly in places, we have a member that is part of a few different professional organizations and holds some very important positions within them, and bless his heart, he came out to say how it is unethical for anyone to diagnose over the internet and the medical issues need to be taken up with medical professionals. (yay, he is my hero) and immediately came the back lash…. all spiritual and religious rhetoric. The sad thing is I know most of the individuals, and I would be weary to take advice from them on how to trim my toe nails…. yet a desperate person will listen and feel justified when one of the flakes agrees with their assumptions and then run with it. We all want to be special and want those in our lives to have special talents and gifts, so it is easy to believe what we want to hear.
Personally, this has given me motivation to work harder on the forum we had created last year. I am sure nothing is perfect, but I can’t imagine a time where I would be okay with the forum being used to promote spiritual agenda against common sense.
Oh, and if I see one more person suggest to another Clinically Depressed person that yoga and a nice walk will fix it all …. or to shake it off, man… I will blow up!
Astrology: what creates the defining moment?
Posted in Astrology, Other with tags Astrology, bipolar, composite, progressed, Solar Arc, transits on August 12, 2009 by wintersprite1You know, when an event happens, we can go back to find the culprits, but ask a dozen Astrologers and you will have about a dozen different opinions…. and usually they are all right. Smaller events, like the over eating on brownies maybe you will find Jupiter with the hand in the cookie jar, but for larger events, especially those time stopping, earth shattering events, multiple factors will be present. This is when we also want to pull out as many different charts to look at. I suspect the more often we find triggers in the different charts, we get an idea of the magnitude of the event.
So lets look at August 8th, 2008 at 3:17am Colorado Springs /Mountain time. After weeks of recognizing a bipolar meltdown approaching, I had a decisive moment to ruin my life
It was one of those times where I said something when the rest of my brain was shouting…. no no no, the keys are still in the ignition as my hands were slamming the door shut. Then I went O.o I am an Astrologer, quick what is the time?
We can start with the obvious, transits against the Natal chart. I still get my charts online, so no fancy point out of stuff in the margins or borders, so to keep from missing anything, I created a synastry chart with my Natal and the Transits. The Ascendant for that moment was conjunct my Cancer Moon (off by 4 degrees) and on my natal NN. That would put my Capricorn
Sun and the natal SN on the Descendant, how ironic, the house of open enemies, I find my Ego. Transit Venus is also Conjunct the Natal Moon, so she is opposing the 7th also. Do we want to include BML? I am not inclined to… but the Transit one is Conjunct my Natal Ascendant and Mercury and Mars…. so she is riding through the 7th house at the time of my “attack” and does it surprise me that she would be sitting on the verbally nasty duo of Merc and Mars? Not at all… Asteroid fans? Vesta is now on my Natal Descendant and Juno moving into a Tsquare with my Luminaries… hope she finds solice with my Natal Jupiter a few degrees away….. aaaaahhh Jupiter hoof and mouth disease, I guess when the tention broke through the Tsquare, natal Jupiter would have triggered. When we have a “decisive” moment, we usually will find the fast moving Moon in there somewhere. The transit Moon was 11 degrees Pisces…. opposing my Uranus and Pluto Natal conjunction in the 8th house… Ouch, but wait…. that means she is also ontop of my Chiron EXACT in the 2nd house. I really have to work through these self worth issues…. for those of you that don’t know what triggered an outburst of “stay away” He wrote “Love you”…. self worth… I had a melt down… very, very Chironic and in that sense, the wound that will never heal. The transiting trio of Chiron, Neptune and Jupiter going rx in Aquarius… bleh, they are having a party on my Natal Anti Vertex. More going on, but those are the big ones.
Now lets look at transits and progressions, shall we? That same trio of transits ran over my Progressed Sun, Mars, and Saturn. My progressed Moon is in orb, but not a direct hit. Hmmm, Natal Juno is seperating from its conjunction with Progressed Venus.
Now lets see what happened with Solar Arcs? What I have been finding in this is that at the moment, there was no activity that should have set off the charges, but OMG the activity over the next few days!!! When the Moon has triggered one, or the Sun in Leo will soon too…. I want to just hide under a rock. Soon afterwards, the Moon set off the Solar Arc Venus (Conjunct his natal Venus).. Whoa hold up!! Just found the Solar Arc POF is conjunct my Natal Uranus, and transit Mercury is possitioned there too… now add in the Transit Pisces Moon and KAPOW… that must be the moment I hit send… the rest of the charges will be coming up and I am sure regretfully.
Being that it involves another person, we should see some activity in their charts also… with out delving too much information we have a Natal Sun, Chiron and the MC all dealing with the Aquarius rx trio. Natal Venus is now in orb of Uranus conjunction/opposition with Saturn… He was a mess before I sent the note… The Lunar eclipse might have done a number with his Solar Arc Moon conjunct Natal Uranus at 13degree Leo… combustion was in the air.
Finally, I am going to look to the composites and progressed composite…. and we have a composite NN, Venus and still in orb Chiron being relentlessly hammered by the trio of rx transits…. who also are enjoying an opposition to the composite Uranus. Transit Uranus is conjunct the composite Mars and squaring the Composite Moon. I should be glad that this was as mild as it was… I mean ouch this hurts bad… but that combo could have been really explosive. The progressed composite has the same hits in different variations.
Where does this go now? I don’t know, I have just been trying to keep focus November there is a return of some sanity in the Universe. As for the Bipolar and Depression…. it wasn’t an attack from the stars… that was my not keeping up with my medication. And needing to remember, during an episode, any time you think you have broken through and made a life altering decision that is to your benifit….If it is 3am, it probably is something you should think out first before acting upon.
Astrology: I Quit Smoking; The Charts Involved!
Posted in Astrology, Modern Astrology, Traditional Astrology with tags Astrology, elective, event, progressions, quit smoking, transits on July 31, 2009 by wintersprite1I was something that I didn’t plan on doing…. I knew I was going to be quitting soon, but no date in mind.
There was a moment…. I said, “that is it… I quit”… and being a good little Astrologer, I noticed the particulars to erect a chart at a later time. I have tried to live life in such a fashion that I don’t try to meddle with aspects and transits, I figure we do what we do and sort it out later. Amazingly (is it really?) the story is told in Astrology charts anyway, seeming we can’t pull the wool over the eyes of “fate”.
A common error I have noticed when working with event charts, is that the birth of the event is the only date and time looked at. It is important to look at transits (the event chart) while running it up the other charts of those involved. Example, a wedding event chart should ideally match up well in synastry with the individuals natal charts (a synastry of the event with each person) a synastry of the composite chart (the composite overlaid with the event chart) and if you are very serious about perfection or as close to as possible, Bob Mark’s speaks of creating composite charts with the event and the person’s natal. I would also add in you can do the same with progressed charts matched up with the event. Wow, no wonder everyday is different for everyone…. even with just 12 Sun signs….. the combinations are huge when you keep digging and looking.
What was it that made me quit? I made a dozen or so charts that I am about to look at. I am also aware we may just miss the important factor…. really, what if the quit smoking aspect involves a progressed asteroid we haven’t even named yet and their contra antiscion aspecting a natal house cusp lord…. we have no way of knowing. (This is where Ryoin’s preference for using Traditional Astrology makes more sense…. though I am not sure even then we can pin point the event that triggered the success…. it would be a much shorter list to look at than infinity)
Having looked through the different charts that I made, I am going to say that it was a combination of the progressions and current transits and the Natal…. again, it is a guess… but a well supported one… and I didn’t quite have time to look into the infinite possibilities.
My Progressed Sun, Mars, and Saturn are at 24/25 degrees of Aquarius… the progressed Moon is at 28 Aquarius, all in the progressed 12th house. We know we have that triple conjunction whammy going on that is now rx… Jupiter, Chiron, and Neptune at the same degrees of Aquarius. In my natal chart they are going through my first house. The progressed Saturn, Mars, and Sun conjunction can probably withstand anything thrown at it… it looks like raw will power. The transits have to do with healing, addictions, over indulgence, psychological factors…. I couldn’t have imagined a better combination unless Pluto was in there somewhere. But wait, he is.
That is the day that transit Saturn(limitations) was at 15 degrees Virgo (health) RX…. and coming back into a direct conjunction with my Natal Pluto in the 8th house (losses… considered house of death)…
So I don’t know which or if both events had to happen for the trigger or if one was enough… or like I said before, a chart we haven’t even discussed, like a Draconian, or an unnamed piece of space gravel orbiting a Venus Moon having a say so. I think that Electional Astrology is bigger than imagined and we would do a great service to go back after the fact and look at events and what may have been the triggers other than that day’s birth chart.
Ouch, Ouch, Ouch! Venus and Saturn Rx.
Posted in Astrology on March 29, 2009 by wintersprite1In my mind, the song by Annie Lennox, “Feels Just Like Walking on Broken Glass” is playing over and over. The good thing is I am mixing it up with her other song she performed, “Little Bird”…guess it is mixed feelings alright.
I am finding myself in a real life version of the movie, Groundhog Day. As with rx planets, we repeat the same situations and finally right them or not and pay for it later. I am in the same situation I was in last year when Saturn was at the same degree of 16° Virgo as it is retrograding now. So Saturn is hitting my natal Pluto again! I am scary broke at the moment, just hanging by my fingernails.(Saturn transit in 8th…my income and resources come from individuals not a normal steady paycheck.)
So like last September, I lost the internet (texting this to Ryoin from my cell) my car broke down, my daughter’s best friend is spending a few weeks over here, and a brief love affair is rekindling…just like September.
I am not sure how to fix most of this, though I have reached a conclusion that I really don’t care for it. I have found no man is an island for as much as I wished that could be the case with me. Sigh, I do need others after all. Venus rx is heading over to my progressed Venus at 3° Aries. Today we had the Sun, Moon, Venus, and Mercury all conjunct in Aries and conjunct my natal Jupiter and my progressed Venus. Uranus transit is also in my second house up on my solar arc Venus. Issues of self-worth are paramount… So when I got stood up again… I blew up! I over-reacted, after all Jupiter was involved. The planetary lovefest in Aries squares both my Sun and Moon…I was a ticking time bomb. Saturn over my Pluto? Yeah, I told him good bye. Will I regret it? I already do, but all the play in the second house forced someone (that would be myself) to show me respect. Something that hurts this much has to be good for you, right? Now to focus on income and worth…damn rx.
P.S. Rx the lessons keep coming. I blew up at someone I shouldn’t have. It was actually me that was the problem. I never drew a boundary back in September. So how was anyone supposed to guess I would become angry? That got me thinking, I have done this my entire life. I allow others to walk all over me and then I blow up and walk away. Okay, so I need to communicate my needs and expectations from the onset instead of punishing someone for not reading my mind. Sigh, so i am passive aggressive…nice.
Saturn rx in my 8th house day
Posted in Astrology on March 3, 2009 by wintersprite1Saturn rx going through the 8th house has been excruciating lesson time. It is bad enough in direct motion. I earn most of my income from other’s money (the 8th is the turned 2nd house to the 7th)… and having Saturn running through this house seems appropriate that the economy is starting to dent my income from others.
This last Christmas season, I had sold 4 puppies to a friend that owns a pet store. I should have made a point of getting paid prior to the rx on the 31st of December. But, it is a friend, right? Here we are in March and I am still to be fully paid. I have been determined to get paid one way or another, so I have done some bartering… and picked up stuff I really didn’t need. The budget was completely blown so I put off some of the bills due… and thought I had a bright idea. Instead of paying the trash collection (how 8th house is that?) We made an agreement I could dump trash in his dumpster as partial payment. His wife is not thrilled with the arrangement, so I am told to dump at night after the store is closed.
Darkness falls and I grab my Scorpio Moon son and we start our adventure. Hoping the neighbors aren’t watching, we stuff my VW Bug with all the trash from the trash cans. I check all the lights and switches on the car, I can’t afford to be pulled over….. I have a bench warrant out for my arrest since my ex didn’t pay the insurance he said he would and have been pulled over 3 times in a week. I am waiting on my tax return (which by the way was delayed, thanks Saturn in 8th) to pay off all the court cost that have incurred. Just right here lets look at that…. I am a criminal, over insurance, and waiting on taxes that are delayed… all 8th house issues.
We pull in front of the dumpster and the security guard from another store shines his headlights on us. So, we just sit chilled in the car waiting for him to leave. I am doing nothing illegal as I was given permission. He won’t leave!! So, I pull out of the spot and drive around the back of the building…. lights still off, I sneak up to the back of the dumpster. My son and I get half the trash out and in the dumpster. Not a pleasant task, as my friend had a tropical fish order that day and you could smell the moralities ( more 8th house stuff!) All of a sudden the security guard shows up again and says he is calling the police. I look at my kid, he looks at me and we get in the car. If the police come, they will ask for my license and I go to jail over the outstanding fees. Now remember, I am a Capricorn, I don’t break rules! So, we jump in the car and I back out in reverse and head for the exit. We get on the highway…. puttering along, it is an old car, and right after a backfire (hey that is 8th too) my son looks at me and says, “this is no San Andreas Grand Theft Auto”…(I could just kill him, that would stay in the 8th house theme of the night) we head to a convenience store a few blocks away. We go in and grab stuff for dinner and to calm down. Getting back into the car, we both start sniffing the air and eyeballing each other suspiciously…. then click I figure out the 3 bags left in the backseat are the ones with the cat litter, the rabbit’s cage changing, and the doggie do from cleaning the backyard… How much more 8th house are we going to get? Rolling down the windows, we see 2 police cars headed to the dumpster and all I can think is get me the next 6 blocks to my house. Noticing some dumpsters across the street I say, “we can get rid of these last 3 over there.” My son is horrified… “Mom, that would be stealing”…(Saturn is going through his 9th… principals… gah, eyeroll) He then turns to me and says, “do I have to wear my seat belt?” “Nah, we are outlaws already, live it up and live dangerously” So back at home the trash needs to be put back in the cans. We get in and I decide to blog about the night… but the internet is off. I have wireless and “borrow” my neighbors bandwith (okay 8th house stealing other’s resources) and they apparently hadn’t paid their bill.
Did I indeed learn a lesson from all of this, yeah I did. I need to be sure that from here on out that all of my income and resources are not dependent on others. And my friend with the pet store…. another Capricorn… no more business with friends especially Capricorn ones. Oh! and if I decide on a life of crime, I have a great get away partner in the family.
Astrology: Conjunction, a Hard Aspect?
Posted in Astrology with tags Astrology, conjunctions, hard aspect, Synastry on February 7, 2009 by wintersprite1In Synastry, Composite, and Davidson Charts we tend to look for conjunctions to confirm our compatibility. This is with the assumption that conjunctions are good, what else is there to look at?
We can look at the planets involved. Person A Uranus conjunct Person B Mars sounds um, explosive to say the least. A conjunction is a place that has a strong focus in that area of the chart. Strong focus…never ending, relentless focus. Doesn’t sound so pleasant now does it? Well, if it is the Moon and Venus, I can’t imagine too much of a good thing wouldn’t come to mind once and again. Hee Hee, that was a double negative, how appropriate.
I was working on a series of charts and had noticed something amazing. Prince Charming is the object of desire. Prince Charming has at least 2 Damsels vying for his attention. Prince Charming has a Grand Cross in his chart. Damsel One and he have many planets conjuncting other planets and points…. that also means in Synastry those same conjunctions now square and oppose other planets. Ouch! Now it is like there are two of his worst traits… guess it makes projecting what we deny in ourselves on another much easier. Damsel Two has a good Synastry Chart with Prince Charming. There are only 2 conjunctions, the rest of the chart are all Trines and Sextiles. His Grand Cross does not affect in the Synastry, as there are no planets or points conjuncting any of the Grand Cross. So what do we have? Damsel One is an obsessive can’t get away from person… and a good portion of the time is spent in argument even though there is a strong meant to be together element. Damsel Two is a good friend that he can count on and they never seem to have a reason to argue.
A conjunct can be great when looking at the charts. A business partner with the same focus doesn’t seem like a bad thing. In a marriage the cry, “Will this insistent, infernal, nagging ever stop?” Probably not, if a conjunction is the culprit.
Pallas in our Charts (aka: Hey, Greenville SC! *waves*
Posted in Astrology, Fixed Stars, Asteroids, and Other Objects with tags Asteroid, Astrology, Pallus, statistics on January 22, 2009 by wintersprite1Pallas is an asteroid commonly used in Astrology and will be included in most Astrological chart generators. The placement and aspects to Pallus will give an indication on how pattern oriented a person is and how to utilize her.
I have Pallas within minutes of a conjunction to Neptune and the MC. Where Neptune tends to dissolve the qualities of conjoined planets, it can also work well with them on an intuitive level. With her on the MC, expect that work that I do will include pattern recognition and working with statistics. That has been true in my life. I have worked in retail and love display and merchandising. I can look at a space and fill it up with out having to take counts or measurements. It has come in handy with moving vans and utilizing every space available! Astrology has been easy for me since I can look at a chart and immediately recognize patterns. As an animal, bird, and fish breeder…. I really enjoyed working with genetics and probabilities… then my Cancer Moon could take over and baby the babies
The work I have done recently has been as an administrator for a voter data base. I had the entire state voting records and patterns at my disposal. I didn’t mind it was a volunteer position, I would have paid to be able to gather data and manipulate scenarios based on voting history. I would then pass the information on to campaigns and they would accordingly plan strategies off of the information. Now that that has ended I was “jonesing” for raw statistical data. Being that Pallas is in Scorpio, I have to investigate every mystery!
Anyone that has been to my myspace has seen the trackers I have put on there to see who is visiting the page and what other pages they are viewing. In a desperate appeal ( I can be pathetic when I need a fix) I begged Ryoin to put a statistical counter on the blog. We are getting hundreds of hits each week and honestly, I can say I am overwhelmed with the data! Patterns are emerging and I am getting a feel for our regular readers and who is coming here off a google search. I can see the times and the timezones and see when our blogs are the most read. Occasionally, Pallas does get lucky and able to identify a reader and label them, and their blog preferences.
What have I found? Well we get most of our readership from the US… followed by Canada, the UK, Brazil, and India. I found a sharp difference in our readers preferred writing style. Seems those that read Ryoin’s articles usually skim through mine and vice versa. The one time hits are obviously research…. we have had lots of those from various college ISPs. And the other one time hits have to do with viewing relationship pages doing with synastry. Our about the authors page is more popular than we thought… we were gaging that with contact from readers before and now see that it is a page that is visited more often than we imagined. Pallas also found that I can say….”Hi Greenville (from a hotel ISP) nice to meet you, drop a line.”
Pallas through the signs and through the houses will tell you more about how she can be utilized. Supporting aspects and close application to the MC/IC and Asc/Desc makes for her to play a prominent role in your life.
Why am I writing about this now? Well…. Pallus just moved direct in Gemini, how fitting.
And Just what are Antiscions?
Posted in Astrology with tags antiscions, Composites, Contra Antiscions, Horary, Synastry on January 13, 2009 by wintersprite1I have referenced using the Antiscions when working with Synastry and Composite charts. But exactly what is the Antiscion? How is it found? What does it mean?
Antiscion: The antiscion (pl. antiscia) is known as the mirror point or the shadow of a planet. The o Capricorn/0 Cancer axis being the line of reference for formulations. Antiscia are also known as the Solstice Points. Especially if you work with Horary, know them by both names, it will be a considerable help for you.
There are charts available out there that will help you pinpoint your Antiscions, and there are many programs that automatically generate them. I would strongly urge you learn to do these by hand (and then in the mind) as you will have a much better grasp of them and will not need to rely on outside sources. That sounded like my 4th grade teacher explaining why we don’t use calculators until we know the math.
The thing to remember is that the signs mirror each other in Latitude.
Cancer/Gemini
Leo/ Taurus
Virgo/ Aries
Libra/ Pisces
Scorpio/ Aquarius
Sagittarius/ Capricorn
So, a Libra planet Antiscion will be found in Pisces… and Pisces planet Antiscion will be found in Libra. The degrees work in the same mirroring way…a vice versa.
1 degree = 29 degrees
2 degrees = 28 degrees
and so on…. the minutes are the same formulation
01 degree = 59 degrees
02 degrees = 58 degrees
That is where the charts come in handy! There is an easy way to do this in the head.

Take 30 degrees and convert it to make the math easier. So now we have 29 degrees and 60 minutes. From that, subtract the degrees and minutes of your planet. The answer will give you the degrees for the Antiscion… now you just have to find the corresponding sign.
Example: The Moon is at 23Gemini23…. so we take the 29.60 and subtract 23.23 and get 06.37. The mirror to Gemini is Cancer so the Antiscion is 6Cancer37.
Now what do we do with this new knowledge?
“…therefore let a Planet be in the tenth degree of Taurus, he casts his Antiscion to the 20th degree of Leo; that is, he gives virtue to any Planet that shall be there placed, or casts any Aspect unto that point; and the Learned do hold an Antiscion to be equivalent to a sextile or trine Aspect, especially if they were Fortunate Planets; and a Contrantiscion to be of the nature of a square or opposition.”
Henry Coley
“those which are of the same virtue and are equally distant from the first degree of the two tropical signs Cancer and Capricorn and in which degrees where the Sun is, the days and nights are of equal length. For example, when the Sun is in the tenth degree of Taurus he is as far distant from the first degree of Cancer as when in the twentieth degree of Leo. Therefore when the Sun is in the tenth of Taurus, he has his antiscion to the twentieth of Leo, that is he gives virtue or influence to any star or planet that at that time either is in the same degree by conjunction or casts any aspect to it.”
William Lilly
The consensus amongst Astrologers is that the Antiscion is where we find hidden motives, agendas, resources for the planet. In transits and Horary, look for the motivations here also. Also, Lilly seems quite generous in giving any aspect consideration, most Astrologers have concluded that conjuncts are of the only importance. The orb to be used should be very exact and not over one and a half degree.
The Contra Antision is exactly 180 degrees (opposite) of the Antiscion. The Contra Antiscion is considered unfortunate when a planet joins it, regardless of the nature. By the same token, a malific can conjunct the Antiscion and it benefits the planet (or Significator in Horary) as an accidental benefic.
When using the Antiscion with dual charts, look for conjunctions of a planet as a strong indicator of compatability… and without the traditional harshness of a true conjunct.
With predictive and transit Astrology, use the Antiscion to find motives and hidden factors and unexpected benefits.
With Horary…. there is alot you can do with Antiscions and Horary. One technique I haven’t seen used is the VOC Moon by Antiscia. If the Moon does not aspect any of the planets Antiscions by moiety, the Moon is VOC by Antiscia. You can also use the Antiscions of the Significators to see what is happening behind the scenes and motivating the outcome.
